The Danum Valley Field Centre (DVFC) is a conservation area and research facility located in Sabah, on the island of Borneo, Malaysia. The Danum Valley Conservation Area is home to primary rainforest estimated to be around 130 million years old, making it one of the oldest and most pristine ecosystems in the world. Many endangered and unique species can be found in DVFC, including the Bornean orangutan, clouded leopards, pygmy elephants, and a wide variety of birds, insects, and plants.
DVFC is actively used for scientific research and conservation efforts. Researchers from around the world come to study its unique ecosystem, contributing to our understanding of tropical rainforests and aiding in the conservation of endangered species. The center is fully equipped with laboratories, living quarters, dorms, and a cafeteria, among other facilities to support scientists.
Please note that electricity is only available from 6 AM to 11 PM.
While access to certain parts of the conservation area is restricted to protect the ecosystem, there are guided tours and eco-tourism activities that allow visitors to experience the beauty of Danum Valley responsibly. Visitors to the center can engage in various activities, including hiking, wildlife watching, birdwatching, night safaris, research and education, and relaxation.
